The Farm and Local History
After WWII Denis (DJ) Bourke married Margaret Ball and purchased the Farm, moving out from the original homestead to continue the family legacy of farming.
Legends surround some of the property that is currently encompassed within what is known simply as "The Farm".
Stories are told that as the famous Kelly Gang were on their way to Jerilderie to hold up the town, they stopped and camped on the property. During their stay there they played cricket with the Bourke boys who were working the property at the time.
The following photographs illustrate some of the techniques and methods of farming in our district in years gone by. Farming was a community affair when harvesting time came around. Farmers and workers would come from neighbouring properties to help out. The photographs here represent threshing, horse teams, horse drawn vehicles stacking sheaths, bullock teams and wheat stacks.
